When Did Easter Baskets Get So Complicated?

Easter baskets used to be simple. Remember when all you needed was some plastic grass, a chocolate bunny, a handful of jelly beans, and maybe a stuffed animal? Now they’ve become mini-Christmas stockings with gifts that require a dedicated budget. We see this come up with clients more than you’d think, especially grandparents trying to figure out what’s expected when there are multiple grandkids involved.

The pressure to keep up with what other families are doing can turn a relatively minor holiday into a significant expense. If Easter baskets have become something you’re spending $100+ per kid on, that’s a choice you can revisit. No rule says you have to match what’s happening on social media or what the neighbors are doing. The kids will remember hunting for eggs in the backyard far more than whether their basket had six items or sixteen.
